Lessons with Tyler are structured according to the unique needs, interests and goals of each student. This includes a general foundation of musicianship learning to read and play music, technical studies, ear training, music theory, and study of different songs and pieces.
Beginning students ages 5 through 10 learn the basics through a variety of method books, including Faber Piano Adventures, Alfred Basics and Rockschool series. Older beginners (ages 10 through adult) generally begin with introductory materials from the Alfred Adult All-In-One and Accelerated Piano Adventures series before moving to more specialized studies.
All students will start to focus on music directed by their own interests and goals. In addition to study & knowledge of classical solo piano repertoire, students can specialize their lessons in pop, rock, jazz and blues, electronic music, vocal/instrumental accompanying, or composition.
Young beginners are recommended to start with 30 min. Experienced or older students are a good fit for 45 & 60 min.
Ideal for older beginners, students who live outside the Los Angeles area, or prefer to connect remotely from home.
A limited number of lesson time slots are available with Tyler in-person at two music studios in the greater Los Angeles area (Temple City and La Cañada Flintridge).
